Security Vetting
(Security Clearances for Commonwealth and State Government Agencies/Departments)

Sirras Consultants conducts initial, upgrade, re-validation and re-evaluation Security Clearance Assessments of candidates on behalf of our clients. All assessments are conducted to at least the minimum standards as set out in the guidelines contained within the Commonwealth Protective Security Manual (PSM) 2005 and we cater for client  specific requirements.

Sirras Consultants provides Security Clearance Assessments to the following levels:

National (Designated Security Assessment Positions -DSAP)

  • Top Secret
  • Secret
  • Confidential

Non-national (Positions of Trust - POT)

  • Highly protected
  • Protected

The Sirras Consultants’ team considers and explores every available avenue during the assessment process, allowing our clients to be confident they have the right employees, contractors and consultants working with them.  Sirras Consultants has the resources to conduct checking actions, as required and as applicable, including:

  • National criminal history checks (through the Australian Federal Police, AFP)
  • Bankruptcy checks (through ITSA)
  • Verification of education (through the relevant educational institution)
  • Verification of work experience (Human resources area; supervisor interview)
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (through the Dept. of Immigration & Citizenship - DIAC)
  • Verification of Australian Citizenship (Through DIAC)
  • Verification of overseas travel movements (Through DIAC)
  • ASIO assessments (through ASIO)

Employment Screening
(Employment screening is also referred to as: vetting, probity checking, employee due diligence, background checking, background verification and security checking for Corporate Australia / Non-Government Organisations / Businesses)


Employment screening is recognised as an important risk management tool and as such is a crucial component of the recruitment process, especially in today’s litigious society in which due diligence may be a critical factor in ensuring business continuity.

The Employment Screening process is the verification of personal information supplied by a candidate seeking employment with an organisation.  Employment Screening of candidates may be undertaken prior to employment, promotions or transfers, as part of regulatory requirements, particularly with respect to directors and officers, and during due diligence and company restructures.

In recent years, Sirras Consultants has been instrumental in developing the Australian Standard AS4811-2006 ‘Employment Screening’ and assisting organisations in establishing their own employment screening process.  Sirras Consultants’ philosophy is to partner with our clients and add value to their existing recruitment processes. 

Sirras Consultants does not become involved in selection of the most appropriate candidate for a given role.  Our role in the selection process is the collection of timely, accurate and relevant information relating to the candidate's background allowing the client to make a better informed decision.

Our Checks

Sirras Consultants can undertake the following checking actions:

Personal Enquiries: Verification of information supplied by the candidate;

Document Enquiries: Verification of identification documents provided by the candidate;

Database Enquiries: Searches of local and international public, regulatory and proprietary databases, to ascertain adverse mention of the candidate or conflicts of interest which may affect the candidate's ability to appropriately meet their duties and responsibilities.


All checking actions are undertaken with the full knowledge of, and consent to these actions being undertaken by, the applicant.

The cost of Sirras Consultants' employment screening services is dependent upon the types of checks required, as well as the volume of checks requested. Sirras Consultants is able to provide pricing information once we are aware of the indicative scope of the engagement.
